Freedom Festival Arts Trust has been bringing world-class performances to Hull, and nurturing local talent, since 2009. A registered charity since 2014, we firmly believe that everyone deserves to have access to the arts. We work with our core funding partners, local businesses and individual donors to be able to curate, and commission, a free programme of accessible performances and exhibitions delivered as part of Freedom Festival and The Awakening.
Alongside our Festivals, the funding we receive helps us provide opportunities year-round for children and young people in our communities to engage in creative participatory projects. For some, our projects are an introduction to the arts. They help to create a sense of joy and belonging, whilst also having a positive impact on their wellbeing.
The core aim of the Trust is to continue to be able to delight and engage our audiences, and to inspire a new generation with what we do. We rely on financial support year-on-year to continue to develop our work and have the below channels for support available. Our newest Impact Report is here! Read through to see how the work that has gone into our 2024 festival has impacted Hull and the region:
In 2024, 70,000 visitors attended our festival across the 3-day weekend, and 2,000 audience members turned out for our second iteration of Freedom on Tour in Bridlington, a significant impact on local and regional economy. We’d love to continue and expand on our cultural offering, to reach new audiences and break down barriers for anyone to access the arts, but this becomes more difficult each year as costs rise and funding pots are spread thinner.
