Background
Create_Space is a virtual collaboration prototype tool for creating, developing, and presenting multidisciplinary site-specific public art.
The tool was created for my Virtual and Augmented Reality MA research project, this new phase of testing and development is supported by Digital Democracies and Freedom Festival Arts Trust.
The tool is made up of three areas, each of which can be accessed by the collaborating artists and invited stakeholders, both synchronously and asynchronously via a Virtual Reality headset, web browser, or mobile device.
Callout for Artists
We are looking for artists interested in testing this tool while working on an imagined brief in collaboration with another artist. You will need to be available in February 2022 to take part in the research project.
Artists are invited to work in collaboration on an imagined brief to propose a piece of permanent or transitory site-specific public art for a specific site in Hull. Further details of the brief and location will follow.
Requirements
No experience of working with virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D models etc. is needed, just an interest in exploring the opportunities new technologies present. The tool is designed to be as accessible as possible; you do not need to be ‘techy’ or have any particular computer skills.
You will need stable Internet connection, a laptop or desktop PC running a compatible web browser, such as Firefox, and a Virtual Reality headset. A number of VR headsets are available to borrow if you do not currently own one.
You will need to spend time testing the environment, developing ideas individually and collaboratively. You will also need to give feedback on using the tool, sharing and evaluating your experience.
Bursary
A bursary of £250 is available for each participant towards time spent taking part in the research.
Expressions of Interest
If you are interested, please email info@freedomfestival.co.uk with a short description of your work (or links), and why you are interested in taking part. This only needs to be a few sentences.
The deadline is Monday 24th January at midday. We look forward to hearing from you.
The Create_Space project is supported by Freedom Festival Arts Trust and Digital Democracies.
