Hull, are you ready for the biggest party the city has ever witnessed? Join us as we embark on a nine-day long exuberant celebration of the arts, with artists travelling from across the globe to share their myriad of talents with you!
This year the Freedom Festival team are determined to keep audiences as invested as possible in the plethora of events happening across the city, so have introduced a daily newsletter reflecting on each day of the festival as it unfolds. Keeping subscribers up to date everyday, all the latest news from the festival is only a click away! We decided to enlist the expertise of budding young reporter Lucy Tessier, renowned for her work in the field of music journalism and dedication to the arts. As our festival journalist, Lucy will be the voice of this year’s newsletter, providing exclusive daily content with artist interviews, behind the scenes details, and reviews.

Introducing Lucy!
“A huge hello from Freedom Festival HQ! I’m honoured to be Hull’s eyes and ears for this year’s celebrations, promising to keep readers at the forefront of each event as and when they happen. As a Hull-born and raised reporter, I’m intent on giving Humberside the credit it deserves for its innovative and valuable work supporting the arts industries. Some readers may recognise me as a leading musician throughout the city’s music scene, having pursued a career as a solo artist and the front-woman of the shoegaze-grunge band Bloodhound. Thus, I am a passionate advocate of championing grass-roots art in all of its inspiring, extraordinary, and mesmerising forms. There really is no better festival that embodies this ethos than Freedom Festival!
Having worked as a music journalist before starting my degree in Leeds in English Language and Literature last year, I believe in providing a platform for artists as individuals as well as their art. I intend to provide readers with an access-all-areas insight into each event, their curators, and the production efforts behind them. This year’s festival programme is nothing short of extensive, but I’m especially excited to indulge in theatrical shows such as Gravity’s Backbone and Mammalian Driving Reflex’s All The Sex I’ve Ever Had, alongside mystifying installations like Joanna Dudley’s WE WILL SLAM YOU WITH OUR WINGS and Stew Baxter’s RESONANCE. So, as Freedom Festival 2022 commences, join me in flying the flag for our city as we transform Hull into a nine-day-long carnival of culture!”
